The Best Boarding School Application Support in the Game

Boarding School Admissions can feel like a minefield. There are contrasting ranking systems for Boarding Schools posted on different web portals and hidden behind paywalls. The reasons behind the rankings often seem mysterious or general.

Many families tell us that they go through the websites of top boarding schools and they all start to blend together. They can’t tell the variation that will make all the difference in their child’s experience on campus and their child’s odds of getting into a top US university.

Once you find the school of interest, it is hard to know how to apply. Most schools don’t post their expected test scores and grades online, so it can be hard to know which schools your child qualifies for. They definitely don’t define what makes a “strong applicant profile” so “strong,” so families wonder how their child can improve their “profile.” On top of all that, it can be challenging to discern if the components labeled “optional” and “recommended” are truly “optional.”

Our job is to make your life easier and your child’s boarding school experience and eventual college admissions better.

Step 1: The consultation.

We offer a free consultation with one of our expert Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultants. In this consultation, we assess your child’s profile, explain the basic application process, and align on expectations moving forward. We can give you a sense of which schools we think would be Target and Reach schools at your child’s current skill level and what it could be with our mentorship. Once you sign on with us, your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant will put together a quarterly breakdown of your specific child’s goals and a proposed school list.

You may wonder, when is the best time to do your consultation? Ideally, meet with us in Grade 6 or 7 if your child plans to apply for 9th grade. We also offer expedited support closer to application deadlines. As we get close to the application cycle, the amount of improvements your child can make to their profile and their application become more limited, so it is always better to talk to us sooner than later!

You may be wondering, how do you know what programming to sign up for? Our Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultants will identify the best program to match your child’s unique skills and needs.

Step 2: Identify best-fit schools and develop the profile.

Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant will partner with your family to provide the best possible experience. The Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant gets to know your child’s personality, quirks, soft skills, hard skills, and learning methods. They help your child identify schools that meet your criteria and suit them.

Even more so than top colleges, top boarding schools care about fit. They want to accept students who will attend their school, thrive there, go on to top colleges, achieve an impact in the outside world, and reflect well on their boarding school. Most top schools do an excellent job of identifying genuine applicants who match their schools ethos, vibe, and academic prowess. We help your family identify which schools best match your child, increasing their odds of getting accepted into top boarding schools and reaching their potential while attending a top boarding school.

Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant also helps your child identify opportunities to improve their profile, closing gaps in their resume, showing off their abilities, and deepening their impact on their community.  Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant can help you find the right summer programs, identify the most useful competitions, and take advantage of leadership opportunities your child didn’t know existed. Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant also talks to your child about books and reading habits. Establishing these positive reading habits and reading books of the right difficulty level help your child in their interviews, application essays, and tests. It also ultimately sets them up to do better in their English Literature classes at boarding school.

Our courses provide excellent profile development opportunities. For most students, it makes sense to pair Boarding and Day School support with our Crimson courses. If your child is struggling with a class in school, our academic courses can also provide supplementary support to help them improve their grades and important, foundational skills. Our academic courses, like Coding and Speech and Debate, also provide extensions for the students who are able to handle more challenges beyond their schoolwork and extracurriculars in a specific area. Top boarding schools particularly appreciate our students’ Capstone projects and Writing Publications, which show their individual passions, skills, and resilience in ways that allow them to stand out from the crowd. Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant oversees and collaborates with all other Crimson tutors to optimize the use of your child’s time.

Step 3: Take practice tests (and profile development).

Your child takes practice tests, such as the SSAT, ISEE, Duolingo English test, and the TOEFL. Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant then helps set a study plan, including goals at quarterly or monthly check points. Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant can estimate how much time they would need to study with a tutor to achieve the score for their dream school with our support and recommend free tools for your child to self-study.

Our Duolingo and TOEFL tutors have not only helped our students increase their English scores, but improved their ability to communicate in English in interviews, classes, and the real world.

Our SSAT and ISEE tutors use a research-based process to help students reach their potential with a methodical, research-based methodology. If you want to know more about the research behind these methods, let us know!

Step 4: School contact.

Once you have solidified your short list of schools, your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant can help you decide when to visit and how to organize those visits. We help you understand when to email, who to email, and what kind of content to include. We also support you through the completion of inquiry forms and outreach to teachers and coaches at best-fit schools. Schools want to see your genuine interest and your independence, so it is important for you to do this school outreach. We are here to support you every step of the way.

Step 5: Interview and Essay Preparation.

Your child will start their interview and essay preparation with your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant by practicing freewriting and brainstorming relevant, impactful anecdotes. Your child will also draft clear, concise, and impactful explanations of their extracurricular activities for Part 1 of their application. Once Part 1 is complete, Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant will help your child sign up for interviews with schools. They also help your child select recommenders and prepare any information their recommenders may need about your child’s life in and outside of the classroom.

Next, your child will transition to more formal mock interviews with our expert Interview Mentors. Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant will prepare your Interview Mentor before they begin the mock interviews and collaborate through the end of the application season.

Once essay prompts become available in late August or early September, your child will transition to formal essay drafting with support from your App Mentor. Reminder: we do not write essays for you or your child. We support you in putting forward your best writing and identifying which accurate information about your child to include in the essays.

Your Boarding and Day School Strategy Consultant will provide support for any parent essays and interviews.

Step 6: Submission

Your Boarding and day School Strategy Consultant helps you time sending your test scores, inquiry forms, interview sign ups, Part 1 and 2 of the application, recommendation letters, and transcripts.
