What Veritas Collegiate Academy Offers
New international students start their first year with a bootcamp before the usual school year begins, including students doing an international exchange program from other Veritas Collegiate Academy locations.
Each year, all students participate in an outdoor orientation, making it easy to make new friends.
Throughout the school year, the school puts on events for holidays from around the world, such as Lunar New Year.
For international students who need additional support, Veritas Collegiate Academy has an English Language Learner program until students are ready for mainstream coursework.
With a location just outside of Washington D.C., the school has the ability to take students on field trips to museums, federal buildings, the Library of Congress, Capitol Hill, and local corporations and universities.
Veritas Collegiate Academy offers a unique rhetoric program, through which English Language Learners and native English speakers alike hone their public speaking and writing skills.
In Kindergarten through sixth grade, students learn to identify and present facts. In seventh through ninth grade, students learn inquiry skills, logical reasoning, and logical fallacies. Throughout tenth through twelfth grade, students learn analytical writing and public speaking skills. Most History and English function as student-led discussions about their assigned readings. Readings span from ancient history and literature through modern times with a focus on the classics, including the Bible, Homer, Plato, Aristotle, Shakespeare, Milton, and the Founding Fathers. Junior year, students learn the research process and argumentation and then complete a twenty to twenty-five page paper. As Seniors, students complete a thirty to thirty-five page paper, a ten-minute presentation, and a ten-minute question and answer session before local, graduate-level university professors.
Veritas Collegiate Academy provides math classes as challenging as many of the top boarding and day schools in the US, including BC Calculus, AP Statistics, Multivariable Calculus, and Linear Algebra.
Veritas Collegiate Academy’s Center for Global Leadership teaches four required modules, each focused on a different skill: self-awareness, mentorship, public and personal communication, and teamwork.
Veritas Collegiate Academy offers over twenty Advanced Placement classes. Advanced Placement testing gives students the chance to provide an objective measure of their skills in a specific academic area to colleges.
Veritas has a variety of extracurriculars on campus, including the Veritas Times (newspaper), The Statesman (yearbook), the Veritas Honor Society, Student Government, the Veritas Interview Club, PSG Alliance, Debate, Reading Club, Lions Club (service organization), and a strong robotics program. All students complete a staggering 80 hours of community service per year. Some students have even been known to found their own NGOs. The Community Service Program itself is student run. Veritas Collegiate Academy also helps students find and complete internships. Veritas Collegiate Academy has limited sports, including Varsity and Junior Varsity cross country, basketball, tennis, boxing, and fencing. It is one of the few top schools to offer boxing and fencing.
Last year, Veritas Collegiate Academy students had acceptances to fourteen of the Top 30 universities in the United States, including Cornell University, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, Rice University, UC Berkeley, UNC Chapel Hill, and Vanderbilt University.

What Steps to Take
Step 1. Complete the application form online or on-paper. This form asks for literal information, such as the student’s birthdate and current school address.
Step 2. Your child should request recommendations from two of their current teachers, ideally an English teacher and a Math teacher. We recommend your child share information about their current academics across all subjects and their extracurriculars and projects outside of class, so that they can write the strongest and most accurate letters possible! At the same time, you should have the school forward your child’s School Transcripts, including grades, standardized test results (if applicable), and attendance records. The school also requests a copy of your student’s birth certificate.
Step 3. If you come from a non-English speaking country, you may need to submit the score from a TOEFL, TOEFL Jr., or iTEP Slate English test. We recommend your child take a practice test first to see what they need to study and review in order to show their skills accurately.
Step 4. Once your application materials are submitted, sign up for a family interview.
Step 5. Finally, students will take a placement test.
Step 6. After gaining entrance to Veritas, there are additional documents to complete, including proof of finances,
Step 7. If your child needs a Visa, Veritas will also help you get an I-20 for your child.
