Whether your goal is to challenge your child academically, give them a taste of college life, or help them explore a specific field like engineering or the arts, these summer programs can provide engaging learning experiences outside of the traditional classroom.

With the majority of programs already filled and deadlines passed, finding a suitable summer program can be challenging. To assist parents like you, we have compiled a list of some of the most prestigious and enriching summer programs that are still accepting applications.

Pre-College Programs

Selective pre-college summer courses at top universities offer middle schoolers access to college facilities and instruction by university faculty and researchers. Students can live on campus for an immersive experience or commute daily.

Duke Pre-college Program

The Duke Pre-College Program provides unique academic opportunities and an introduction to the college experience for students currently in grades 6-11. These courses provide students with access to university facilities, including labs, Duke faculty, and researchers.

Duration: One-week and two-week programs are available.

Selection of Programs available

1. Residential Programs: In the Pre-College residential program, students live in the campus residential hall where they build connections with students from around the world. Apart from scheduled classes, students also get to experience campus tours, visit sports facilities, participate in club activities, and attend other prestigious seminars.

Program Fee: $2,150 (one-week) and $4,700 (two-week)

2. Commuter Programs: 

In commuter programs, students are expected to arrive at the campus each morning and depart in the afternoon. During their time on campus, commuters follow the same schedule as residential students.

Program Fee: $1,400 (one-week) and $2,800 (two-week)

3. Duke University Marine Lab: 

Students live on-site while having access to labs, boats, and other Marine Lab resources. Courses include sustainability, conservation, marine biology, and more.

Program Fee: $3,100 (one-week)

John Hopkins Pre-college Program

About the program`

The Center for Talented Youth (CTY), a nonprofit academic center of Johns Hopkins University, provides accredited, advanced online and on-campus courses that are often not found in schools for high-achieving students. Whether your child is looking to get ahead in their studies, make progress in a subject they love, or find a community where they can be themselves, this program is ideal for them.

Selection of Programs available

1. On- campus summer programs: This is a residential and commuter program offered at various sites/campuses across the US. Find the complete list of campuses here. Courses are offered across multiple domains, including computer science and technology, history and social sciences, language arts, mathematics, and science and engineering. Duration: 3 weeks

Last date for enrolling: May 3, 2024

Program Fee: $3,099 to $6,819

Other Requirement: SCAT(Entrance test)or PSAT score

2. Online courses: CTY offers 150+ Online courses available worldwide. Led by expert instructors, CTY's online courses aim to go beyond what you're learning in school and delve deep into topics you love. The courses are available in several different formats—Session-Based, Individually Paced, and LIVE—so you can work at a pace that fits your schedule and learning goals. With online courses, CTY provides the possibility to earn school credit.

Tuition: $695-  $2,127 (varies depending on the format and course)

NYU Pre-college Program

About the program:

NYU offers engaging, hands-on enrichment programs for young students grades 6-8 to help prepare them for success. Led by NYU faculty, these middle school programs are designed to teach concepts and skills outside of standard middle school curricula. They offer hands-on learning experiences that enhance students' understanding of a variety of academic subjects, including math, science, engineering, humanities, and the arts.

Location: NYU's Brooklyn and/or Manhattan campuses.

Duration: 4 weeks

Cost: Full scholarship

Selection of Programs available

1. College and Career Lab: CCL offers underserved middle school students attending New York City public schools the opportunity to explore a variety of academic pathways and ‘try on’ careers throughout middle and high school.

Application deadline: March 31, 2024

2. Sound of New York City: This program aims to deepen students' knowledge of engineering, physical and computer sciences, and natural phenomena like waves and sound.

Application deadline: April 14, 2024

3. Science of Smart Cities (SoSC): This program aims to introduce students to topics in engineering, computer science, and technology to make cities more sustainable, efficient, and safer.

Boarding School Programs

Boarding school summer sessions give middle schoolers a preview of prep school life. Students take academic courses while participating in athletics, trips, and other activities. For students who wish to join boarding school during their high school years, summer programs offer a glimpse into that life.

Phillips Academy Andover

Andover Summer at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, is widely recognized as one of the nation's premier summer academic enrichment programs, helping students from across the United States and around the world achieve ambitious educational goals.

Location: Andover, Massachusetts

Selection of Programs available

1. Summer Session: This flagship five-week on-campus premier academic enrichment program integrates multiple subjects under the umbrella of a single theme. Students engage in our five-week academic program, participate in off-site field trips, and attend coordinated afternoon and weekend activities. Students may enroll as day or boarding students.

Application deadline: May 15, 2024

Program Fee: $10,600 - $6,950 (Financial aid available)

2. Andover Advantage: This two-week academic refresher course is designed for rising 6th through 9th graders living within commuting distance.

Application deadline: June 15, 2024

Program Fee: $825 per course

Phillips Exeter Academy

Program Offered

Exeter Access: Exeter Access: This is a five-week program of academic study, athletics, and personal exploration for students who have completed grades 7 or 8. Access Exeter allows students to choose from ten academic clusters each containing three courses that are specifically grouped together to enhance the cluster theme. 

Application deadline: May 1, 2024

Program Fee: $10,625 (boarding students) and $7,250 (day students)

Choate Rosemary Hall

Choate offers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5-week summer programs for both boarding and day students. Students may choose to take up to 3 classes from over 100 course offerings in art, English, history, languages, mathematics, computer science, robotics, and the sciences. 1. Academic Enrichment Program: Choate Summer Programs' most popular program, the 5-week Academic Enrichment Program, offers middle and high school students an immersive learning experience with a diverse group of peers and professional educators.

Tuition: $10,590 (boarding) and $2,810 (day students)

2. Theater Art Institute: This is a 4-week program that includes 6 courses and weekly trips to professional theaters and artistic performances.

Tuition: $9,630 (boarding) and $7,700 (day students)

3. 2-Week Workshop: Workshops offer students the opportunity to have an immersive learning experience in a subject of their choosing. Topics range from Concepts in Chemistry to Creative Writing and meet for roughly the equivalent of 3 class periods, 6 days a week.

Tuition: $4,560 (boarding) and $3,660 (day students)

Sevenoaks School 

Sevenoaks School is globally recognized for academic excellence and curriculum innovation. Their summer programs offer bright, ambitious students aged 11-17 a taste of Sevenoaks through academic, music and English courses.

Selection of Programs Available

1. Summer Programs: This Summer Programme is an academic enrichment course for bright, ambitious students. The academic aspect of the course includes four modules: Critical Thinking, Social Leadership, Creativity, and Digital Skills.

Duration: 2 weeks

Program Fee: £4,950

2. Music Program: This is an immersive course that combines practical and academic musicianship as an introduction to the skills and techniques sought after in UK music scholars. Students learn performance, composition, history, and get the chance for analysis from Sevenoaks School's teachers.

Duration: 2 weeks

Program Fee: £3,896

3. English Language Course: This course is designed by Sevenoaks School's specialist language teachers. Students study General English and Academic English to improve their aptitude in the English language and to prepare them for exam papers or further study.

Interlochen Center for Arts

Interlochen Arts Camp offers a variety of session lengths and dates for multiple age ranges (grades 3-12). This is a unique experience as students get to enjoy all the fun of summer camp, including cabin games and exploring the outdoors, while also practicing, performing, and creating art. Interlochen Arts Camp Programs provide a diverse selection of summer camp programming and education in seven arts disciplines: creative writing, dance, film and new media, interdisciplinary arts, music, theater, and visual arts. Some programs require submission of work/ portfolio for review. 

Duration: 3 and 6 weeks camps are available

Program Fee: $6,765 (3 week) and $10,080 (6 week)
